One of the most popular vehicles for the everyday drive is definitely the BMW X3. The carmaker perfectly combined versatility, luxury, fuel efficiency, and excellent driving dynamics and it’s no wonder the vehicle is so popular among customers. The carmaker is now working on the next generation of the X3. The vehicle was revamped in 2015, so for the 2017 model year, we do not expect any revolutionary changes. The 2015 model easily meets all people’s needs, but the carmaker claims that the next generation will have even more to offer. What do we expect from the next-gen X3? Well, we anticipate the M-performance model to be offered, probably dubbed the X3M40i. We also assume updated engine lineup and more power. 2017 BMW X3 Exterior
When we spotted the test mule on the road, it was heavily camouflaged but it wasn’t that hard to conclude that it is not much different from the current generation, at least, when it comes to the overall shape. However, there are several noteworthy changes we would like to mention. First, the front fascia was redesigned.
Below the grille, you will notice a small opening. You will also notice that the air vents seem to be a bit smaller and definitely more rectangular than the ones on the current model. The spy shots also reveal that the headlights are also smaller, even though they wear heavy camouflage. The rear end features new taillights with clear lenses. As for the spoiler, it will be nearly identical to the one on the current model.
BMW X3 2017 Interior
Details about the interior changes are still scarce and the spy shots we managed to get reveal nothing about this department. The only thing we could notice is that the dash was slightly elevated over the instrument cluster. Apart from this, the rest is still a mystery. We can only make several assumptions here.
We think that the vehicle will keep the same instrument cluster but we expect a larger entertainment screen. Improvement in terms of technology is also highly anticipated. Of course, we expect nothing but leather seats. Since the next generation of the X3 will be built on the CLAR platform, we assume the same proportions in terms of passenger room and cargo area.
Powertrain of the new BMW X3
What kind of engine will power the 2017 BMW X3? Unfortunately, the carmaker hasn’t said a word yet. Some trusted sites reported that the carmaker would offer several gasoline units and, at least, one diesel engine.
The current model is offered with a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder with the power output of 240 horses, and a turbocharged 3.0-liter that churns 300 horsepower, and a diesel turbocharged, four-cylinder engine that cranks out 180 hp. We assume that the carmaker won’t stray away from the aforementioned engines but we expect more power output.
2017 BMW X3 Pricing and Release Date
In our opinion, the price won’t change much compared to the current generation which starts at $38,950. BMW X3 2017 is expected to appear in showrooms in the second half of 2016.
